HFSS metamaterial unit cell port excitation

Hi I'm studying on HFSS and I'm working on to design metamaterial unit cell.
I have one question about my port excitation of design. Is there any specific rule to assign E-field, H-field and wave port excitation?

Hi Hoijin,

There aren't particular rules per se., but for waveports keep in mind that the ports will just solve whatever modes they can up to the number of modes that you have specified. If you don't see the mode you are looking for, you may need to solve for more modes, or re-evaluate your simulation setup.
