I am fairly new to electronics and have been trying to construct this 555 timer flashing led circuit. http://solderpad.com/psd/blinking-led/ I have posted a picture of my setup. It will not flash. Can someone please tell what I did wrong or if I'm missing anything? I am using a 22uf cap because I do not have a 10 uf cap.

According to circuit its not 10uF or 22uF its 10V 1uF cap.

Can someone please tell what I did wrong or if I'm missing anything? .

i can clearly see 2 mistakes in the wiring.
1) the junction of cap and 470 Kohm should connect to pin 2 & 6 of ic ( and not to led as you have done)
2) that led wire has to go to pin 1 (gnd)

some other points :
a) as betwixt wrote - make sure your led is right way round. The 'flat' side pin is the cathode and goes to gnd/ batt negative.
b) make sure your battery is OK. Do you have a meter to check it ?

lastly - are you sure your R3 is 470 Kilo-ohm ? This resistor needs to be large, otherwise even with correct connections your led will appear to just glow & not flash. With your 22uF you can choose any value for R3 which is more than around 10Kohm - fast blinking - to 1Mohm (very slow)

I'm confused. I used one of the white wires to connect pins 2 and 6 with the resistor and cap.

sorry - can't help you any more than this.
all the best
