Hello,

I am a MS student in Electrical Engineering. I just had the opportunity to explore FPGA in one of my classes. I also learned some VHDL for using the XIlinx Spartan 3E FPGA. I want to learn more about it by experimenting and doing more projects and stuff. Can anybody help me with suggesting FPGA begineers level projects along with the procedure of how to develop and finish one ?

Your help is highly appreciated.

Jambhu

you may do some small projects at first to do specific function like the 7-segment decoders and so try implementing different "ic's" functions if u r completely new , .. if u r ahead of this i suggest you start by exploring a small easy processor architecture and implement it , it really helps in both understanding computer architecture and verilog/vhdl

Can u provide me with some links which would demonstrate step by step procedure to work with FPGA ? I am extremly new to this background and do not know where to start. I have a Xilinx Spartan 3E board to experiment on..

have you tried burning any thing on it ? or not yet ! ?

These books have a lot of examples and they are explained step by step.

Hi,
Thanks for your quick response.

I actually had a a team project of establishing synchronous and asynchronous communication between 2 FPGA using CRC error checking.
So, using the provided flowwchart of the process me and my teammate developed VHDL code for it. (it was then i learnt VHDL for the first time)
This is all I have. I want to know more about it. So I want to use FPGA in small student projects to get more familiarity with FPGA's. This is possible only if I have the step by step procedure of what to do when, even if it is a baby step.

I have already started researching about the IC's which can be implemented by FPGA's

Thanks.
