extracting desired frequency

I am doing a project in matlab . my job is to extract the desired frequency from the .wav file and play it . can you help me?

Two possibilities:

- Load the wav file, fft it, then take the coefficients associated with the frequency you want.

- define a digital bandpass filter (butter, ellip, etc) with the frequency band you want and convolve them
