if you want to know to programm in assembly than it is always useful to have simulator. make your programmes run them on simulator . this will help you.

Try Robert Lafore C book. It is good and simple and then proceed with datasheets of the respective controller.

u can use the book embeddedc programming for reference if u wnat to test some codes then as said u can use simulator .www.keil.com has IDE for ARM/8051/251/166 so that can be useful .if u want to have PIC go the www.microchip.com

do you know C programming... then its simple. jus learn abt the compiler u r going to use. and u can directly start programming.

Well embedded c is nuthin dat special.. itz just normal c with a few extra syntax .. and a lil restriction.
Every complier will have some different syntax.. so itz basically which microcontroller ur using , which will decide which compiler to use .
Keil C supports most of the Micrcontrollers but not PIC ..

Mikro c is a good complier for Pic MIcros.. CCS is another one.. try them
