Recent researches hav shown that no 2 ppl in this world hav the same ear. Hence, ear can also prove to be a potential biometric for auhtnetication. Similar to face recognition, an ear recognition system can be developed using image processing toolbox along with other functions in MatLab.
The features of the ear could be used as a potential biometric signature but the fact that they can be concealed by hair means further research is needed into the subject.
Unlike faces, ears do not change shape over time.
The ears have certain advantages over other biometrics as they have a stable structure preserved from birth to old age and instead of aging they just get bigger. The ear also does not suffer from changes in facial expression .
