monopole antenna

hi everyone, im assigned to a project which need to built a monopole antenna.

What i want to ask is, does monopole antenna need a ground plane or it can be directly connected to the LC tank ?

Thanks for your reply

Re: monopole antenna

Yes and no. A quarter wave monopole needs some sort of ground plane. That ground plane might be a piece of metal on the circuit board, the shield on a coax cable, or the body of a person holding the unit. How well the ground plane works determines the radiation efficiency and radiation pattern.

Other types of antennas, such as a sleeve type coaxial half-wave antenna, do not require any sort of ground plane at all.

Re: monopole antenna

biff44,thx for ur reply.is there any antenna that is simple to construct, high in gain and does not need a ground plane?
