Could this SMPS controller be damaged by being screwed too tightly to its heatsink?

...Its a flyback controller with internal FET. Assumedly the circuitry is in the body, and not in the screw holed tab, so no matter how tightly it was screwed to a heatsink, it could not be damaged to the point where it would suffer electrical failure (by being screwed too tightly to the heatsink)?

Its basically a TO220 package with multiple legs.

I would say, in general, that's true.
To get a good thermal contact to the heat-sink you should always use a thin layer of thermal grease between the tab and heat-sink of course.

there is a remote chance that extreme overtightening could put stress on the die - esp if the hole is oversized and the screw is slightly undersized
