How does these clamping diodes work for each picture please

I have seen these clamping diodes in a lot of schematics, they are very common configurations and arrangements

It seems like they clamp the input or output waveform the same pretty much, but why would a designer choose one over the other

How does the clamping differ per each configuration or it does the same job pretty much?
