It is an actuator of central heating boiler hinged lid made of universal actuator of central locking. Actuators of this type have fairly large „load”, so they easily cope with the lid of boiler, but they operate in pulse, providing continuous voltage causes strong heating of the actuator, and the operation in pulse does not keep the lid open.

Such actuator should be supplied from a power supply when you appropriately select the current, so that the actuator would lift the lid and keep it above and at the same time not heat up. You can find an application of popular LM317 in the role of current limiter. Resister was calculated of R=1,25/J. In this case, two 1,5ohm resistors were connected in series, and the current was set to 430mA. At such small values of resistors, it is better to choose the resistor experimentally. At that value, the actuator lifts the lis and keeps it in that position. At a value of 650mA, the actuator does not heat up too much and becomes stronger.

When the lid is too big and heavy, it is suggested to make a new one, which would be lighter. After 24 hours of operation, LM317 on the heat sink was slightly warm, resistors and rectifier bridge – warm, and the actuator was cold.

The actuator can be controlled from a driver based on popular NT9 and sensor Pt100.
