linux as RTOS

can we use linux as real time operating system ?

linux as RTOS

No, as it is you can't use it for real time applications because the scheduling in Real Time operating system is different which provides guaranteed processing time/resources for each task.
But there are some linux kernels available with real time scheduler. Check out https://www.fsmlabs.com/index.php for details.

as far as I know, the new linux kernel at least later than 2.6 can be used to do it. However, you should double check it!

Re: linux as RTOS

There are 2 well known linux patch for real-time application
Try www.rtai.org for RTAI and www.fsmlabs.com for RTLinux
Also try google to see the document compare this two alternatives
