i have mistakenly bought a 6v relay but my supply coming from battery is 15 volt dc and motor needs to run at 12v A.c through a 12-0-12 center tape transformer.. i have to connct dc supply 15 volt (to relay) to activate motor of 12 volt ac through 6 volt relay.. is it possible using carbon resistors only??

Hi sfa732,
Welcome to EDABoard,

This sounds like some IQ test

There is several solutions:

- To use zener 5,1V-5,6V and resistor.
- For existing 6V relay you can use voltage regulator for 6V as 7806 or similar for that voltage rating.
- To buy and use 12V relay (best variant).

what if i apply 15v to that relay?? :p would it get damaged??

Coil will overheat and will burn.

You can get 12V for car at any corner in any car parts shop. But better look for relay with higher resistance in coil, this will keep lower current and power usage. Of course relay contacts must support needed current for motor.
