you can implement many DSP algorithms on VLSI platform...
VLSI is nothing but a platform like if you write something in C you generate EXE file that is software for particular algorithm
simillarly if you make HDL code or layout level design for some algorithm it will generate digital hardware for that algorithm
there is no special relation but you can make a bridge for vlsi and dsp both you learn as subject but DSP is application field and VLSI is platform for implementing that application field hope you understood
