basic difference between chopper and dc-dc convertor

If somebody could pls list out the differences between a DC CHOPPER and a DC-DC CONVERTOR(BUCK,BOOST,CUK ETC.) . They seem to have the same circuit diagram. Pls reply.
 

Somebody may be able to clarify, but by my understanding a DC cchopper is just a general term for such switching circuits. Whereas boost, buck, flyback converters etc are specific types of SMPS's.
 

chopper circuits are mainly for converting DC to AC using a switching terminal which is being connected to a transformer....!
 

Chopper circuits decreases voltage level of DC. It consumes the chopped voltage or just blocks it.

On the other hand, DC to DC converters first modulate DC to a high frequency sinusoidal AC voltage, then pass from a ferrite or air core transformer, and finally rectify at a different (higher or lower from the input) DC level.

Is that clear?
