You may construct given in the link below to automatically control the light as to swithc on during dusk and switch off during dawn.

If you meant counting the visitors and controlling the room light accordingly, you may download a similar project using 89S52 microcontroller with source codes from this link

thank you very much.my project will on count the number of people, but only switch the light based on the people leaving or entering. thanks.
 

could i please replace the ldr with ir in my automatic room light project.

The circuit given in the second link in my previous post used IR LED's with IR sensors for detection...Cheers
