Auto Tuning PID methods

Hello!
Does anybody knows which method is the better?
closed loop where we adjust the gain to do some oscilations
or open loop where we have only one curve?

zn method is the method you can find pid co-efficients easily

But ZN has both methods....oscilatory and step response

go for oscilator i think its simple to find the co efficients

used the formulas for ziegler nichols BPL or ultimate gain method
