5V in to +-12V@30mA out DC/DC converter

5v to 12v dc dc converter

I need a isolated DC/DC converter that with 5V in I get +12V and -12V (don´t need to be accurate simetrical) with 30mA power supply. This will be used in an RS232C to RS422 converter, if possible with LM555 or ua494 or LM3524 or any other very popular IC.

Check MAX253.
Then you don´t have to bother...

If you want to design your own flyback converter with an oscillator that is either free-running or on/off controlled, PowerIntegrations have got a lot of good application notes on transformer design and theoretical discussions.

But I would go for the MAX253 or similar...

Check out the LM2585 )**broken link removed**) from National. They have an app note to show you how to build exactly what you need (+5V in, +/-12V out) at a very low parts count. The hard part of designing an isolating DC-DC converter, at least for a non-power person, is designing the isolating transformer. National has arranged with Coilcraft to supply the isolating transformer described in the app note, making this a pretty turn-key solution.

I'm in the same situation of Fernando.

I'm looking at some dc dc converter isolated at least from 4kVrms.

I'v found this one

but i'm afraid that i can't get some samples or buy some unit to try.

do you have found something similar to buy? ah, it also has to be little (10-20mm - less than 1 inch)
