Still wondering about cascode transistors' effective (W/L)

For different (W/L),how comes the formula?
From which piont of view? Ids?gm?...

Hai there,
Assume m1 is the lower transistor and m2 as the upper transistor.
m2 can operate in triode or active region whereas m1 always operates in triode region.
applying suitable current equations for i1 and i2 (standard Mos current equations) we can say
i1=i2 = k'/2(w/l1+l2* (Vgs-Vt))**2
Hope this gives you some idea ....

the current in the two MOS is equal.
so you can try it to get the equations.
