Hi,
Firstly, Go through some books like walter c bossart's on Basic pcb design principles, douglas brooks(ultra cad) and eventually read black magic by howard johnson, eric bogatins signal integrity made simple.
Secondly,to have feel of the design from schematic to gerber generation, there are lots of free/demo version pcb design software available, download and practice for a while till u become comfortable with the design flow, now you can download lots of articles related to design flow from google search.
Thirdly, you need to know about the design, like analog, high speed design,Rf and mixed technology which you gonna to design, now you can choose your software now to your requirements.
For lower end design free softwares will do,but need to need to design boards with differential pair, xata pci express, xuai blah blah blah better go for robust software like Pads, allegro and cadstar, they are capable.Hope this will help you.
Eagle software, from cadsoft.de, is very easy to learn, within a few days you can study it well by yourself with the manual and tutorial downloaded free on the website (you will need no other document practically). There is also free version of the software.
Using this software, you will befenit that many circuit diagrams and PCBs on the internet are drawn by Eagle.
I myself strongly advise this software as it is small, easy to use, easy to custom your own component library and projects.
I suggest u 2 try with pcb wizard .Because It is very easy & simple ever I have seen.they have also student ver.U can download a video tutorial from their site
& see it.
Better you can start with Orcad PCB Layout plus.Since most of the EDA companies using cadence product for Layout(Allegro). If you are familier with Layout plus then it ll be easy to learn Allegro
