need help....to design a PCB

I am a beginner to PCB design and am currently working a project where in I need to start layout of a PCB. We have Cadence PSD 15.0 installed. So where do I start ? I have been trying to read some of the tutorials. Please let me know of any good tutorials for beginners and other steps I need to follow ? Thanks in advance

Then you can visit some sites of pcb programs like Mentor, cadstar, etc.
Then check out eagle at http://www.cadsoft.de


all the above includes general guide lines and articles around PCB design.

I have some more questions. This is the problem. The PCB will contain a Image sensor chip and the output needs to be interfaced to a A/D evaluation board to start with. and then later on we wish to make a board with sensor chip, A/D and other components. the signal running from the sensor chip will be at around 15 - 20 MHz, how is the length of the trace dependant on this ? Also how do I decide upon the number of layers ?

Also what are the things I need to consider when interfacing the sensor chip and the A/D converter. The output of the sensor is analog differential. and the a/d takes in that. Thanks in advance !
 

Hi Circuit,

U can start learning the Allegro by the Training tutorial, search in this site, U will find the training materials for Candece PSD 15.0, Its really good for newbi in PCB from basic to advanced ( include simulation by using Cadence SpectraQuest 15.0 ). About your design, I think with speed from 15 to 20 Mhz, may be you no need to care about critical nets. however if U have recommend from Logic Designer for Placement components is better.

U can find the good document for Design from PCB express or on this site. very usefull.

No one is best, it's depend on your requirment!
I used Protel, PowerPCB & Cadence, each one has its own characteristic. Protel is easy to learn, PowerPCB is uesd for 4-8 layers PCB layout, if you want more layers PCB, Cadence is a good choice!

thanks. i have one more question. How do I select the bypass capacitors (value ?) for my application ? I am having to layout a image sensor chip and an A/D converter chip. the sensor chip has separate analog and digital power supply and grounds. thanks once again !


edit:

what are all the things need to be taken care of to provide a clock input (say 20 Mhz) to a pin in the board...for ex, any capacitanes and resistors that should be added ?
