is there any problem for using 2N3055 as stepper motor driver ?

But L293 is a costly alternative, so i can use some cheap transistors instead isnt it ? , like BC549 ?

I'm not sure of your requirement, BC549 is a very low current device , it's not intended to drive motors.

You didnt say voltage and current needed for stepper.

asked about BC549 just because to give the base current for 2N3055

Ok, so this thread is about a bridge driver and not a motor driver?
In the first post you asked if there is a problem using 2N3055 to drive a motor, did you mean as a pre-driver for the output stage?
If so what is the output stage and how much current will it need to supply to the motor?

To drive a 2A per channel unipolar stepper from a pic with 2N3055.

can i drive a unipolar stepper with 2n3055 and mcu ?

you can but you have to use a driver to provide sufficient current to the base.
This has already been explained in previous posts

Surely Darlingtons (or MOSFETs) would be better than 2n3055s for this?

can u recommend a cheap mosfet available in india ?,
I have a pile of 2n3055 available in my lab , so i thought of 2n3055.

Given that the Ic of the 2n3055s will be 2A, the minimum Hfe is 20, so Ib must be > 100mA. So the driver transistor must be able to deliver this current which is exactly the max current for a BC 549. If cash is really short, select yourself some 2n3055s with higher Hfes and use them in the darlington configuration. Watch out for the voltage rating of the BC 549s or connect its collector to a +5V line.

Nandu ji , a bit late before I see your post, I bought P55NF06
This mosfet can be directly connected to PIC micro through resistor, isnt it ?

No problem whatsoever. Just that you'll have heat -dissipation issues, and you'll need proper drive circuits for fast switching. Quite a challenging job, but i say GO for it !!

cheers!
