I guess my inverter passes some noise to the battery and the battery passes it back to a separate switch mode 5V regulator which is also powered by the same battery.

well, I'm using a car batter to power up a monitor (230V) and a BBB at the same time.
BBB is powered through a LM2596 switch mode regulator. (12V -> 5V)
Monitor through a 100W inverter. (12V -> 230V)
It seems like BBB cannot generate a video output when both share the same battery. :(

I have to connect a HDMI display/monitor to a car for my project. (video comes from a BeagleBone, so has to be HDMI/DVI). Monitor takes less than 50W.
I was thinking of buying a 50W power inverter. (12V to 230V).
Does anyone know if it will be cheaper than buying a 12V HDMI...
