Filter noise from a DC power supply

Hey guys, I'm an software engineering undergrad and my electronics knowledge is pretty low.

I was wondering if there is a simple circuit to filter out noise from a 5V 1A DC power supply ???

you can by a 100nF capacitor at the output of your source .. as in 7805-binding scheme.

but does it filter out all the frequencies ???
I guess my inverter passes some noise to the battery and the battery passes it back to a separate switch mode 5V regulator which is also powered by the same battery.

Well, you're working with DC, then the voltage fluctuation is not so big to worry, to have a clean output you just need to put the capacitor at the input and output of your regulator. The regulator that I showed in the example supports up to 35v at the input and regulates the output to 5v. Then at the entrance of your regulator, you can use a 0.33 uF capacitor and the output capacitor of 0.1 uF.
