hi pals ...
i m trying to compress the bmp image to jpeg standards using wavelet transforms .. can anyone suggest me how to proceed ??
i also wanted to find " in which portion of the image i have the maximum information .. "

i m sure that u would find image processing tool in matlab 7, but u dont need image processing toolbox for this project i guess.
by the way, what transforms are u planning to use ??
i suggest u to use zig-zag scanning & apply dct ...
wavelet transforms might be useful too.

I have R14 too, almost all toolboxes, Athlon XP2800+, 256mb RAM.
The initalization takes few seconds only.
may be u didint installed it properly or u installed something like matlab web server..which do takes a lot of time.
try to uninstall ....matlab web server ..from the...

matlab is matrix laboratory..it is capable of doing all the complex eqations in seconds . It is used for 2D,3D designing.
it is availaible in as ..compiler and assembler also
to avoid confusion ..read the help files and have a matlab tour ( availaible in software).
