importance of output impedance

What is meant by Output Impedance and what is its importance

i know what is meant by input impedance and that it should be large for amplifiers

but what is the importance of output impedance in amplifiers

should it be large or small

that totally depends on your application. If you want your amplifier to output a current you want a high output impedance. Same goes for your input impedance, if you want to amplify a current you don't want your input imp. to be high, but low.

it requires a low o/p resistance to provide max. power to ur load.

Have a look at any amplifiers eqivalent ct.

when the output of this amplifier is coupled to another amplifier or unit (may be speaker 8 ohms)

the output load wont discipate any power if the output imp is high. take an example if the output impedance 32 ohms and a speaker is connected which is again 8 ohms. now thatz a loss in gain. coz only 1/5th of the output voltage is across the load.

output impedance should be small,so that max power may be delivered to the load across the amplifiers. for max power transfer
output impedance of amplifier and attached load should be same.

hope that answers the question
