Can I solder SMT IC with wrapping wire?

Re: SMT devices soldering

Yes. You can make a leaded part out of a surface mount part by soldering wires to it.

Yes I have used wrapping wire to solder an 8pin SMD IC onto a 8 PIN DIP tulip socket.

Re: SMT devices soldering

and i have used wirewrap to solder ti's pcm 2902 into a 28 pin socket...just bend one pin up,one down, use two colors of wire,a good magnifier and some hot glue to fix the wire after soldering..then you'll have alternated colors to help you not mistaking the pins...but i think you should try to start maing your own pcbs...the method i use is here:

i bought a laser printer to do this at home, and i use glossy magazine papers...you can´t get cheaper :D

Re: SMT devices soldering

Hello

There are ready made PCBs for such purposes, they look pretty, and much easier to deal with.

What do they mean with "the glossiest paper"?

On http://elm-chan.org/docs/wire/wiring_e.html
Dumb question i know, why is the wiring pen so special?
Note i don't know what it is actually or what it does.
