Hi Forum,

Hope you are all fine. I have been working with Microcontrollers for few time and i had developed some circuits specially Anti Theft Vehicle System. My system is working fine with 12V Transformar 1.5A using 5V regulated IC 7805.

Here i have a question, now i have to connect this circuit to the Car battery. Could you please tell me can i connect my circituit (7805 IC) directoy to the car 12V battery or i need some circuit in between. As i know car battery has 70Amps so may be it will damage to 7805? Please suggest me.

Regards,

Shan

there wont be any problem with that... if you take care that the circuit doesnt exceed the output current rating of the 7805 everything will be fine....

It will be fine until your battery dies and you get a jump start, and the battery terminals spark a bit....

You need to do some research on powering electronics in a car, it's a pretty tough environment, although I couldn't find any references in ~ 5 minutes of googling. Try looking at the Freescale or Infineon web pages for automotive power supplies. You'll need overvoltage and short circuit protection, both.
