Hi

Pony programmer supports this hardware

Check your hardware with pony prog.

What ic (buffer) you are using ? Always use 74HCT541

i checked the clock and other signals too all are fine but i used 74LS541 dose it make any difference i measured the output of the buffer it works accordingly with the input when enabled.

instead of 4MHz crystal i used 12MHz dose it also matters

I keep hearing using "HCxx" parts instead of "LSxx" parts, what's the main different between these two?

BTW, it seems this is also the main cause for many ICD2 clones' mis-function issue.

Yes using crystal 4MHz or lower speed may give you desired results

Yes. The main difference is timing. The above avrfreak links have some details about that I think

ok i will try with it and say later
thanx,..

hello
guys i have made the programmer and ie works perfectly it is not of asim's but a different one and dosenot require any extra component only the software is enough no need of any buffer either.. this is really the cheapest ISP for AT89SXX series

74HC chips are High-speed CMOS. 74LS is Low-power Shottky.

The 74HC CMOS chips are faster, but they cannot handle as much power as their LS equivalents.

The 74LS are TTL chips that use Shottky diodes, which greatly reduces power consumption. They are otherwise identical to the standard 7400 TTL series.

Your problem is most likely (99%) the length of the cable from the parallel port to the programmer.

Keep this cable short as possible. I was getting the same error until I shortened the cable and now it works perfectly.

Another alternative is to use a programmer with a built in microcontroller that communicates with the PC via the serial port, then it talks to the device being programmed. This will always work in every PC, any operating system including DOS.

Good Luck

Good point, are there any open source matured design available now?

Hi,
You may know this ckt.
I do not have direct link so putting here the project it self.
Thanks
