    Eigenmode Solver Question

I have a question here hope somebody can answer it. In EM software (e.g. HFSS), the Eigenmode solver can simulate the resonant frequencies of any random closing structures. So why those frequencies are called "Eigenmode" from the simulator? Does it relate to the "Eigen value" or "Eigen...

Cylindrical cavity resonator feeding problem (HFSS)

do you understand which mode of the cylindrical cavity you are going to excite? TE01, TE11....?

    Cavity deisgn with HFSS

a proper boundary condition should solve your problem, try "Radiation Boundary" on the small hole, it should work

    H-plane Filter Definition

FvM, thanks for the reply. Linear Polarized mode, you mean for example TEm0 mode? Yes, I understand for those modes, H-filed only has X and Z vector (assume XZ plane is the so-called H-plane) However, We know H-plane Filter/discontinuity also supports other TEmn mode, e.g. TE11 mode, which...

    H-plane Filter Definition

Understand H-plane filter has the same "B" dimension, why does it called "H-plane", relating to Magnetic field not changing on the plane? H-plane waveguide structure only support TEmn mode, which has Ex, Ey, Hx, Hy, Hz vector, correct? So the magnetic vectors are on all the directions.... So...

How to calculate the electrical length of a transmission line by HFSS simulation

Yes, i figured it out afterwards. Play the physical length until seeing the integer number of 360 degree. Thanks anyway.

How to calculate the electrical length of a transmission line by HFSS simulation

e.g. a piece of waveguide with certain length. How to accurately calculate its electrical length by HFSS simulaiton? Thanks.

    Calculale R, L, C of a spiral resonator

I am not a planar guy but the basics are always the same. The structure looks to me like a T network, two series inductors and a shunt capacitor between them. Spiral inductor, you can find equations everywhere online to calculate an approximate L Capacitor, you can use the parallel-plate...

HFSS problem with cavity filter : version 11 vs later version ?

simple, try it in CST time domain solver, the you know which HFSS version is more reliable.

    Coupling Matrix for Microwave filter

Pseudo-HPF? You mean actually a BPF but used as HPF? Normally Coupling Matrix is used to "describe" a BPF. The matrix tells the resonator offsets and coupling connection between resonators. Mathematircally, the coupling matrix elements are related to its corresponding lowpass prototype...

How to define ports for a SIW transmission line in HFSS?

upload your model, I can check for you.

    Waveguide Cutoff in HFSS

simple, draw a piece of waveguide, do a full-band simulation, then you will see a "high-pass" response, which represents "cut-off"

    extracted pole filter synthesis tool

Hi, I am trying to design a 7-order extracted pole filter (1 transmission zero on high side). Is there any good synthesis tool to get something e.g coupling matrix? Thanks. Lee

A problem in frabrication: Narrow band filters

in his case, it cannot. His narrowest BW is around 2%, and filter order less than 5, which is not possible to have 10db level IL, based on current regular dielectric material.

A problem in frabrication: Narrow band filters

I am afraid I cannot agree with upstairs....dielectric/cond. loss won't make a 10dB IL. R u making Microstrip filters with SMA connectors? Seems like the biggest suspect is your input/output coupling. Make sure you did a good job on soldering at the connectors.
