why we call complex axis jw?

why we call complex axis in electrical engineering jw and why just j not?
 

so is this a scale?

but when we obtain for example network function for a system and it's pole equal to 2+3j we show it in complex plane 2 in real axis and 3 in complex axis so this is not scale.
