Why my PC restarts when I try to open an audio file from my mobile phone?

my pc is shutdown suddenly. and some times its shutdown when cant open some files(specific files ie(my phone file))

I suggest you re-install the operating system, then try again.

Do u received any msg when the pc is shutting down?
Can u giv me specific about ur pc spec like OS? speed? ram size?
Also what program that cause ur pc shutdown except IE?
After the pc shutdown will it restart again?

The answer needed, what the 'laststep' asked. Secondly, do u have updated Antivirus installed and checked the computer for any possible attack?

1-my pc has 3.6GHz.windows2003 sp2,RAM=256MB
2-it shutdown when i try to open sound file in my phone memory
3-After the pc shutdown it restart again

Okay, lets have a recap on your PC prob.

theres always two sides in troubleshooting;

1. HARDWARE
2. SOFTWARE

--In hardware, do you have made any hardware changes before you got your prob.?

verify if there are Busted Caps in your MoBo...
also installing too many peripherals may also cause this... (check the power rating of the PSU)

If above is done, lets get thinking on the "soft" side

Are you shure that this is a shutdown? It can be that there is a BSOD, and system automatically restarts after a crash. Under under your windows install directory there is a subdirectory called minidump. Do you see any files there?

sometimes these errors happen from sudden damage to the ram memory ... very rare but a possibility especially if there was a power fault at some time
