Why me PC doesn read a GPS receiver?

I wanted to test my GPS receiver and connected it trough serial port to my PC, but for some reasons my PC didn't want to read it. So I tried another PC and everything was fine.
What can be the reason?

Many GPS receivers instead of having "true" RS-232 levels send just 0-5V (almost TTL/CMOS) data. In your case I think you have this problem: your PC serial port accepts levels between -25V to -3V as LOW, and +3V to +25 as high and therefore data comming from the GPS receiver is ignored, as there was no signal below -3V.
Check data sheet of your receiver..

Testing GPS receiver on PC is easy, just interface one max232 ic in between GPS receiver and PC, because TTL to CMOS conversion is required. else it will damage the gPS receiver.

Please tell me which module ur r using so that i will upload the schematic as per GPS receiver. For interfacing it with PC.

It is working now when I used max232 chip.

i am trying to interface my gps with pc using NMEA protocal.
plz ,can u send me the 'c' language coding for that one.
i am in great need of that interfacing 'c' language program.
