No-one can say which one is better unless the application is specified. There are a number of parameters to be taken in consideration while taking the decision. for ex: reprogrammability, cost of production, band width of the device(for communication systems) which will take into account the speed of the device, etc...
So if application requires that the device should be re-programmable you will certainly decide between DSPs & FPGAs, but not ASICs.
Still there are many application where ASICs have ousted DSPs.
