when do we need equalizer?

Used at receiver side to accomodate phase/frequency shifts..

we need a equalizer when the gain over our region of operation is not constant or phase over our region of operation is nonlinear.... so for the correction of the transfer to our required one we use equalizer....

Hi
When the frequency response of the channel is not constant. Then dispessive copy of your transmitted signals is received in receiver.

In wireless communication, you use an equalizer if you transmit signal in frequency selective fading channel.

The equalizer is used to compensate the attenuation or amplification due to the frequency selective fading channel.

Without equalizer, most likely you will get useless symbols since a transmit symbol experiences interference due to other symbols.

To Compenstae for attenuation, phase and freq. of a signal undergone frequency selective fading..
u do this at the receiver before demodulation
