What's the need of using both protocols i.e. MODBUS & Ethernet (TCP/IP) in a single PLC ?

Are you asking about TCP/IP in general or a specific communication protocol on top of TCP/IP (e.g. MODBUS TCP or PROFINET)?

I can imagine many applications of an Ethernet capable PLC. These days, Ethernet based protocols are becoming industry standard, but not all automation applications actually need it. If you don't need it, just ignore it.

I have seen a PLC that have both communication protocols i.e. MODBUS & Ethernet (TCP/IP) .... so i just want to know why both communication protocols are used with that PLC .....
