What's a better FPGA: Cyclone or Spartan III?

I am startig a new project and i need to chose the FPGA, the project include also a multiplexer.
My choice is restricted between Cyclone and Spartan III.
What is in your opinion the best one in terms of Performance and cost?

consider you I/O pin number and power consume.
and choice cheaper one.

Consider your requirements of the application like PLL, I/O standards, current loading, DSP blocks etc.

Other people are saying the right thing, you should check your requirements, however, if all else is the same, then in one word : Xilinx!

Based on your final application you can decide on the resources available on that perticular FPGA & the cost of the product!

If you are looking for DSP kind of applications has lot of multipliers then choose Xilinx Spartan devices which are cheaper for that resources....
