My problem is to design the control circuit that can give proper pulse signal to switch on the SCR. Can anybody help me what type of microcontroller I should use in my project?

PIC18s (Microchip) are very good for this kind of application... The ATTiny series from Atmel is also similar. It kind of depends on what experience you already have with some microcontrollers.

Why ?. It can't crash and is much faster and more low cost than microcontroller. Paul.
