What type of ICD-2 should I use with PIC18f5480?

What type of ICD-2 should i use with pic18f5480 ? Is it money wise to use one or not ? what advantages could i gain of having one ? how much does it cost?

Hi,
the advantage of ICD2 with 18F4550 is the speed to program and the speed to debug.

To compare the debug step time between RS232 and USB, you'll found >4 steps per second for USB and <1step per second for RS232.

If you bought it from microchip, it'll cost about 150$. If you want to realize it's very cheap. Some components could be free with the sample program from some semiconductors industries (microchip, TI...)
If you bought all the components it'll cost nearly 30-50$

ICD-2

I think you have it backwards crazyduck

about 2sec per step RS232
add 1 sec per FSR watch variable.

<1sec for USB (as long as it's a 18F4550 or Cypress, not a USB to RS232 bridge)
add .2 sec per FSR watch variable


PS and yes an ICD2 is the next best thing to an ICE. Superior to just a programmer
