100nk capacitor

Can I use the follwoing capacitor for decoupling purposes in digital circuits.

It has the marking 100nK 63. It is 100nf 63v

Besides this I have two other types in the same block shape but in blue and grey color. They show 0.1uF J.

How to tell what type of capacitor it is from the marking or shape.

capacitor 100nk

Normaly, for decoupling capacitor in digital purposes, capacitors you can't are electrolitics, because it have a high inductando, so for high frecuencies over 1Mhz, electrolitics capacitors lose the capacity.
Use of ceramic or polyesters capacitors are good for decoupling.
In picture,it is apparently a NP0 ceramic capacitor, it means is a temperature compensated capacitor, is good for your need.
But it's inserted capacitor, so very high frecuencies will be not decoupled, cause the inductance in pins.

100 nk capacitors

Are polyester film capacitors good for decoupling purposes. Or should one use only ceramic.

100nk capacitor value

You can use polyester film caps as well.

ceramic is good.
and silver mica is superb,if u get them!

100N = 100KPF = 0.1 Mfd. Its all one and the same. The photo given is of a polyester film capacitor. These types are well sturdy against temperature changes compared to Ceramic, and well suited for decoupling applications...Cheers
