What might be the problem If PING doesn't work?

If PING doesnt works

Hi ,
If i type "ping www.google.com" and if i cant receive ECHo reply, what might be the possible problems.?? Problem with ARP table or any firewall inbetween is rejecting all request???

Possible DNS problems also can prevent it..

DNS is the system that translates the address www.google.com into an IP-address. So when this not works the ping commands does not know to which IP it should ping.

Do try the ping command from the same machine from which you are going to the internet? (Then DNS works, otherwise you could not surf.

Yes, probably it is a firewall problem.

Have you the IP-address of a router or another computer in your network that you can ping? So you can test if the ping works in your local network.
