The corresponding hardware realization is optimal in terms of delay and offers high data throughput compared to the recently proposed designs while it occupies slightly more area.

What does throughput mean here? Does it mean something like highest possible speed for data transfer?
 

throughput is the average rate of successful delivery of data over a communication channel.
 

throughput refers to transmission of successful data as against transmission of data. transmission refers to those packets as well which are received erroneously
 

throughput is the amount of useful data out of the total received data.

you are talking about "goodput" through is the amount of received data .
