hi

i want to know what is the function of X-Y/normal switch in an osculloscope

if anyone can provide me with any handbook about oscilloscope using and its
fuctions.(oscilloscope hand book or help book)

The dual trace or the X-Y mode is used to measure the phase difference between two signals.

The X-Y mode allows you to supply the x (horizontal sweep) voltage instead of the built-in time-base generator that the scope normally uses. As Prodrigues mentioned, one of the most common uses is for phase comparison. It can also be used for frequency comparison. Do a web search on "Lissajous" for more information.

The X-Y button gives the lissajous curnes while the normal gives the normal real time display.
