LAYER PURPOSE

hi there,
i saw a 'net' purpose for a metal layer. Usually we use 'drawing' purpose layer to draw our layout and use 'pin' purpose to announce a pin, but what is the function of this 'net' layer purpose? Does anyone have an idea? thanks in advance!

Re: LAYER PURPOSE

M1(net) means - Metal 1 net layer and used for auto Place and Route purpose

And you can find any such layers informatoin from your Layer usage description file for your particular technology, you can get this file from your technology group.
