What is the difficulty in designing sata interface by fpga?

this topic arised from a progarmme we are now conceiving. i searched on the internet but find very few solutions or articles. As i am not very familiar with sata protocol,would any one please tell me about the real difficult in realizing sata interface by fpga, is it the high speed of sata?

Difficulty is not the speed but the complexity of the SATA core and adherence to the SATA specifications.
