what is the difference between 8-bit microcontrollers and 16-bit microcontrollers

and i am a beginer in pic
so what shall i use:8-bit or 16-bit
 

8-bit microcontrollers have 8 data lines there for it can process 8 data bits at a time. Same is for 16-bit.
 

... so 16 bit uC can process more data in quota of
time
