What is difference between X1/X2 Capacitor

Hello Guys.

I am working on the Benchmarking of PCB.

where they are having X2 and X1 Capacitor Notation...??

What does it mean and are they same or different..??

Re: What is difference between X1/X2 Capacitor

From the basic understanding

I got to know that
A) X Cap fails user will not get electric shock.

b) Y-Cap fails then user will get the shock.. then this is very hazardous, where i might be thinking of Not putting Y-Cap in the circuit to avoid user gets shocked.

Any more clearance on both capacitors..??

Regards
Marx

Hi,

your headline talks about X capacitors only.

Now you are asking about X and Y.
Aagin: https://lmgtfy.com/?q=difference+x+y+capacitor

Please do such simple internet search on your own.

Re: What is difference between X1/X2 Capacitor

Your understanding is wrong
X capacitors are connecting between power lines(Phase to neutral)
Y Capacitors are connecting line to earth, User may get shock If any capacitor failure because most of the equipment’s chassis ground or outer body is connected to earth. Line voltage will directly come to body of the equipment when any failure in Y capacitor
Manufactures of these y capacitors will take care of these dangerous situation. So Y capacitors ae costly than x capacitors

X1,X2 means the difference in working voltage
X1 having 4000V Peak service voltage and X2 having 2500V
Similarly Y1 and Y2

Y Capacitors are connecting line to earth, User may get shock If any capacitor failure because most of the equipment’s chassis ground or outer body is connected to earth

User may get shock when Y capacitor failure (User do not get shock when X capacitor failure because X capacitor connected between phase and nutral do not connected to earth line or body of the equipment.
