the best way to start analog design..is first need to understand the CMOS VTC(voltage transfer characterisitcs) ,learn small signal models of mos transistors, then by heart the equations of MOS like gm ,ID relationship ,and some basic equations like resistance and capacitance...
I believe reading textbooks are the best way to start. I started with Sedra's book and then Razavis and then Gray and Meyer. I believe it's also a good idea to read a topic from a couple of text books to get aquianted(wrong spelling) with different ways of conveying the subject.
Read Razavi and Paul Gray books, do problems after each
chapter, compare your answer with the solution and try to
figure out what is the advantages of the solution design over yours.
You will get a good feeling about analog circuit design by doing so.
Added after 2 minutes:
As for simulation tool, Cadence design environment is enough to take care of
all the basic job, including layout simulation.
