Email Archiving

With the hundreds of emails that are received every week, I was wondering what is the best way of archiving them so that any particular email can be searched for text.
Using the archive feature of micr0s0ft 0utl00k has its own problems. You have to load a read/write copy of the pst file in 0utl00k and then search it. The file therefore cannot be a readonly file (on a CDROM). The text searching is also limited to a particular folder and so on.
With so much usage or email as a business tool, I am sure to get some suggestion on how you guys handle the bulk.
