Hi,
SYNDET/BRK pin outputs a High to indicate the chip has detected the SYC. Characters in Synchronous mode with internal syc. enabled ;or, it has detected a break condition ( RX line remained low for minimum two character periods ) in the Asynchronous mode. If in the synchronous mode, external syc. option is selected, this pin is an input pin and the external circuit should apply a high level when a syc. condition is detected.

Hi,
Since in synchronous mode there is no Start bit as in asynchronous mode, you use special sync characters to identify the start of frame and there after to locate the data bits from the frame.
