i hope that you know that linux is an operating system like windows.in certain embedded systems,we may need an operating system to accompany more than one applications.but the linux kernal is too big to fit with the embedded system as we got limited progaram memory space.and the speed of the system may also affect with big o/sso we take out the necessary parts of the linux and can embed in small memory area .this is called embedded linux.
